Are there tools with more features out there? Yes. Are there tools that look cooler? Absolutely. But none of them can match the sheer versatility-to-price point of the Shard. It is so good I'm going to be buying another couple to just hook onto day bags. This tool lets you do basically everything you'd need a multitool for day-to-day with none of the bulk of a leatherman. It doesn't have a knife, but for things like opening boxes it'll still get the job done. It is also TSA friendly so you can take it for added utility when flying.Cool little EDC tool. I don't actually find it all that useful on a daily basis, but I still like carrying it and fidgeting with it. Solid little prying tool. Sharp enough to tear open a package, but not so sharp that it will cut you. Worth the price.I keep it in my small travel toolkit and it works great for that purpose. I pulled a few nails with it when sparkling my walls; no issues.Haven't used it that much but its on my Keychain so practically always with me for whenever I need it. Being lite weight is a plus as its either in my pocket or hanging on Keychain with the rest of my keys while I'm driving. The good folks down at Park hacker introduced me to this product and now that I have it I use it everyday! It’s very versatile and helps with a lot of household as well as outdoor activities. Now I don’t leave the house without it whether it’s the bottle opener or the the prybar it’s been very useful for me in my daily life even when I’m at work daydreaming of hiking and traveling. It’s very sturdy and it’s at a really great cheap price point might as well grab one or two while they’re still at this nice price point!Easy too hook onto the key chain and for other usesThis won’t replace a multi tool, but you can put this on your keychain and you’ll have it when you need it. The tool is nearly indestructible.Boxes, beer bottles and other stuff. Good for opening stuffThe Gerber Shard will likely not replace anything you already have but it does give you a few more options. I purchased it for those situations where you find you could've or should've taken a tool with you but didn't.Its functions offer a basic fix to situations you might encounter on the go. The build is solid and size wise the shard fits nicely on a key fob. I would've like the option to buy a graphite or metallic version but its no big issue. I've had mine a few weeks now and the black coating is showing some wear around the edges as a result of being in my pocket with my keys. I don't think that this detracts from the look, and has given it a bronze/gold hue around the edges.Perhaps a little pricey but a solid addition to everybody's pocket and a great little gift for someone.*Update*Been using the Shard 4 years, as good as when I got it, no wear or tear. Lots of use opening bottles and packages when there weren't any other tools available. A bargain at the current price point. This is a handy tool - I think that Gerber have been optimistic with their 7 function claim and I had to google what the 7th function was, it turns out it is the hole. That's right a hole is a lanyard hole and so serves the function of a tool????This is a nice compact piece of kit and has come in useful for opening a few beers and prying a locker door open after I forgot my keys. I have used the screwdriver functions and keep it on my car keys .It arrived in good time and was packaged sparingly but nicely in a small box with the gerber brand name on, I would not call this a gift box but who gift boxes keyring tools?a nice item I would recommend as a back up to a multitool or for a minimalist EDC (everyday carry)I've used this for opening beer bottles and cutting price tags off garments, and it does these things brilliantly. It also has a screwdriver and whatnot - I've never used them but they look legit. It's not going to replace a toolbox or a Leatherman, but I wouldn't expect it to. Looks stylish, feels sturdy and well-made, doesn't take up a lot of space. I also got one for my dad and he was very pleased with it. I think this would make a really good gift for most men - and, indeed, some women. Highly recommended. To be honest I think I may have damaged more things with this little tool than fixed, but this is due to my own impatience and putting it through its paces. I bought it as I was sick of bending keys when trying to fix the little fiddly jobs. I always have this on me, when in work and at home and it has proved its worth. All aspects of work perfectly and has made its way to become the main centre piece of my everyday carry and would be lost with out it. It works best when out and about and need something small to fix the job quick or even little jobs round the house when it just not necessary to grab the big tool box. The build quality is excellent but being an avid appreciator of gerber I would expect nothing less. I will be purchasing more for friends and family as they make great little gifts. An incredibly versatile product with many uses - it can be used as both a flathead and Philips screwdriver, a bottle opener, a nail-puller and a pry bar. The black finish looks like it should hold up for some time, and the Shard feels reassuringly solid. My only issue - and thus the docking of one star - with the product is that the point of the bottle opener appears to be needlessly sharp and could potentially scratch things. Despite this, I am still very pleased with the Shard and would recommend it to anyone wishing to be a little more prepared.
